Kelly Luminoso, MSW believes that emotions are an essential part of the human experience, and by fostering a deeper understanding and acceptance of our emotions, we can navigate life’s challenges more skillfully. She works collaboratively with clients to help them develop self-awareness and identify patterns in their emotions and behaviors. Through the lens of DBT, Kelly works together with clients to explore healthier ways to cope with intense emotions, reduce self-destructive behaviors, and foster a sense of resilience and emotional stability.

Kelly received her Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Toronto, Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from the University of Victoria, and Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology from Toronto Metropolitan University. She completed her DBT training with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and has several years of experience offering individual and group therapy in community and hospital mental health settings. Kelly Luminoso: About Me

Favourite DBT Skill

"My favourite DBT skill is mindfulness of current emotion. When we practice mindfulness of current emotion, we become attuned to the subtle nuances of our emotional experiences, noticing the physical sensations, thoughts, and behaviors that accompany them. By observing our emotions with curiosity and openness, we gain valuable insights into the underlying causes and triggers behind our feelings. Rather than getting overwhelmed or swept away by our feelings, mindfulness of current emotion empowers us to create a sense of space and detachment from our emotional responses. This enables us to respond more skillfully to challenging situations, making choices that align with our values and long-term goals."
