Janine B DBT Therapist

Janine Bastas, MSW, believes that everyone has the capacity for change and growth and that you don’t have to face life’s challenges alone. She feels deeply honoured to walk alongside her clients as they work toward balance, healing and a greater sense of well-being. Janine creates a safe, compassionate and nonjudgmental space where children, youth and families can explore emotions, strengthen relationships and learn effective coping skills. Drawing on Dialectical Behavior Therapy, she helps clients build resilience, reduce distress and communicate more effectively — one mindful step at a time. Janine values authenticity, respect and collaboration in the therapeutic process. Her approach is strength-based and child-led, recognizing that meaningful change happens when clients feel supported, empowered and understood.

Janine holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Windsor and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Trent University. She brings extensive experience working with individuals of diverse abilities and has a special passion for supporting children and families in developing emotional regulation and connection. Outside of her practice, Janine enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors and exploring creative outlets that bring balance and joy to her life.

Favourite DBT Skill

"My favourite DBT skill is mindfulness. It’s truly the foundation for everything else we do in
therapy. I believe that when we learn to slow down, notice what’s happening in the moment and approach ourselves with curiosity instead of judgment, real change becomes possible.
Mindfulness helps us build awareness of our thoughts, emotions and body cues, creating space for compassion and balance. From that foundation, the other DBT skills — distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness — can grow and thrive."
