Donna Mahoney, MSW believes that simply surviving is unhealthy and unsustainable, and that the good news is that it doesn’t have to be this way. She is honoured to walk this journey with you from start to finish. She creates a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space to help people overcome, manage and find meaning in life’s challenges. Donna aims to support her clients, acknowledge challenging emotions, reduce distress and learn to enhance effective communication skills, through a variety of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) coping skills. Donna values client autonomy, safety and respect and believes it is an integral part of creating healthy, meaningful and proud interpersonal connections. In therapy she tailors the DBT treatment plan to your specific needs to help you build resilience, one mindful step at a time.

Donna received her Master of Social Work (MSW) at the University of Michigan. She brings over 16 years of experience in mental health and addictions, and has led Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) programs and training in community mental health settings. Donna’s approach to therapy is multi-layered, drawing from a mindfulness lens with a trauma-informed and recovery-oriented approach. Donna has a passion for applying and living the spirit of DBT in her personal and professional lives. In her spare time you can find Donna at the local park, hiking outdoors, visiting the local zoo or refinishing antique furniture.

Donna Mahoney: About Me

Favourite DBT Skill

"I'm a fan of opposite action, which is captured by the phrase, 'move a muscle, change a thought'. Opposite action enhances one's ability to become aware of unhelpful emotional urges, and find a new, skillful way to respond."
